Ouabache State Park

Found this picture of the fire tower in Ouabache State Park in Bluffton, Indiana. Taken in 2014. The tower has been tidied up and is now open again to the top. I think it's time for another visit.

CCC projects at McCormick's Creek

McCormick's Creek is Indiana's first state park, opened in 1916. the Creekside shelter is one of the original CCC projects.

Among other projects were trail building, a stone bridge and a gate house.

View from the very tall fire tower.

The bridge over McCormick's Creek was built in the mid 30's.

Fall at McCormick's Creek

It was perfect weather for a fall hike, and the colors were gorgeous under blue skies.

These kids were having fun at the falls.

I tried scaling the cliff face to access a small cave, but gave up halfway.

A massive Beech tree had fallen onto the steps, which had recently been rebuilt. Builders left the tree as it lay on both sides. There were over 100 steps from the creek to the summit, with convenient landings every 30 steps or so.
This is a honkin' great big tree. Maybe a Cypress?
